Work has begun on the $1.8 million Pikes Peak Medical Office Building in Woodland Park.

JE Dunn Breaks Ground on Pikes Peak Medical Building

JE Dunn Construction Co. has started work on the 21,000-sq-ft Pikes Peak Medical Office Building on the site of the new Pikes Peak Regional Medical Center in Woodland Park. The Colorado-based general contractor also began work earlier this year on the $9.8 million, 41,000-sq-ft Pikes Peak Regional Medical Center, situated on an 11-acre mountainside site.

The $1.8 million medical office building is scheduled for completion in January, with the Pikes Peak Regional Medical Center finishing in July.

Both projects - designed by Architectural Nexus Inc. - will make full use of the natural landscape and fit aesthetically within the surrounding community.

Loveland's Mirasol Moves Forward

Ground was also broken earlier this fall on the Loveland Housing Authority's Mirasol community project.

Designed by Lantz-Boggio Architects PC, the $8.8 million project includes infrastructure on the 20-acre site in Loveland, a 5,178-sq-ft community center and 49-unit senior apartment building.

Mark Young Construction Inc. is the general contractor, with Dennis Wolfe serving as project manager and Gary Burkhart as project superintendent.

Models Open for Bluffs at Spring Creek

KB Home opened its first community in Colorado Springs in September. Three furnished models are now available for viewing at the Bluffs at Spring Creek, a project announced last March.

Bluffs at Spring Creek is located northeast of the intersection of South Circle Drive and Hancock Expressway. The community will offer 86 two-story townhomes with brick-and-stone exteriors.

The houses - priced from the high $100s - feature 1,448 to 1,898 sq ft of living space, three bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms and alley-loaded, attached two-car garages. They also include 12-ft ceilings in the living rooms and covered balconies adjacent to living rooms or kitchens.

Southlands Holds Grand Opening

Southlands in Aurora opened more than 45 new stores along its Main Street in October.

Main Street at Southlands - the heart of the development - combines a movie theater, several locally owned and national retailers and restaurants and a number of boutiques.

The Southlands development introduced a number of first-to-Colorado international and national tenants, including Jim 'n Nick's BBQ, the Make-Up Store, PB Loco and Tilly's. Southlands will also include popular stores such as American Eagle, The Children's Place, Coldwater Creek, Fuzziwigs Candy Factory, New York & Co., Pac Sun and Zumiez.

Phase 1 of Westminster's Orchard Town Center Debuts

Phase 1 of the one-million-sq-ft Orchard Town Center lifestyle and entertainment center opened with a new JCPenney on store Oct. 6 and a SuperTarget on Oct. 8.
Phase 2 of the Town Center, developed by Forest City, will open in fall 2007.

The Orchard Town Center, designed in the Craftsman and Prairie style, is located at the intersection of Interstate 25 and 144th Avenue, just south of E-470, a major thoroughfare linking northern Westminster to the greater Denver area.

The opening of a new interchange at 144th Avenue provides visitors better access to the property. The interchange serves as a vital link to the transportation network in the rapidly growing north metro area.

Ault, Pierce Getting New Fire Stations

Thissen Construction Corp. celebrated groundbreakings in August and September for new fire stations in Ault and Pierce. Pre-engineered metal buildings will house the 10,907-sq-ft fire facilities, both of which will be constructed on a six-month schedule.

Chuck Mayhugh of CRM Architects in Wellington designed the facilities. The firm is also designed fire stations in Wellington and Red Feather Lakes.

DCAC, KB Home Kick Off Renovation

Construction crews returned earlier this year to the Denver Children's Advocacy Center to begin the renovation of another Queen Anne-style home for the center.

In August, DCAC staff and volunteers and KB Home staff and government officials celebrated the project by demolishing a large concrete slab in the home's front yard.
The home, adjacent to the current DCAC facility, is being renovated to provide space for DCAC staff, law enforcement and human services personnel to conduct forensic interviews of children who have been victims of sexual abuse or who have witnessed homicides and other violent crimes.

KB Home has donated the labor and materials for the remodeling. The home builder was also the lead builder during the 2005 renovation of the DCAC's current facility.

Once renovation of the 3,200-sq-ft house is completed in four to six months, it will contain a reception area, ample waiting room, forensic interview rooms and several offices.
