Busy in Northern Colorado/Montrose's San Juan Cancer Center

$31 million, 137,800-sq-ft South Tower renovation - just in

Mortenson Completes
Broadmoor Remodel
Construction was completed in early May on the most recent
project at the Broadmoor resort in Colorado Springs - the
$31 million, 137,800-sq-ft South Tower renovation, designed
by CSNA Architects and built by Denver's M. A. Mortenson Co.
In order to fit the new five-fixture bathrooms into each
room, the building was expanded along the east and west facades
to make larger bedroom spaces, creating a new look for the
1961 Modernist exterior. The expansion features precast concrete
and metal-stud construction built against each side of the
original structure.
Other highlights include the addition of balconies, ornamental
railings, high-performance windows and doors, and a stucco
exterior - all designed to fit with the original Italian Tuscan
Revival architecture of the 1918 resort.
A new dining room was also created for the ninth-floor Penrose
Room restaurant, and an exterior viewing balcony was added
at the restaurant's southwest end.

a "close," a road in front of stately homes for
carriages to turn around in a small landscaped space.
Highlights include a private roadway lined with trees; a
brick sidewalk to bring guests to front entries lit with gas
coach lamps; a wrap-around alley offering private garage access;
and fully landscaped yards with shade trees, hedges, shrubs
and picket fences.

Great Walls Installs Sound Barrier in New
Neighborhood
Great Wall Systems LLC and Kurowski Development Co. teamed
up to build a sound barrier and privacy wall protecting Denver's
Greenwood Reserve at Cherry Creek.
The system, comprised of precast panels and columns, is unique
in the Denver market. Each 12-ft by 8-ft panel weighs up to
8,500 lbs and has a stone masonry texture on both sides. The
wall was finished with a long-lasting concrete stain.
The environment was a key consideration throughout the planning
of the five-acre Greenwood Reserve at Cherry Creek. In order
to save as many trees as possible, a plan was designed to
prevent overlot grading, which meant the use of low-impact
ponds to reduce the amount of stormwater runoff into county
facilities.
