Fentress Bradburn Announces Three New Projects

  • The new 154,000-sq-ft, approximately $50 million Cape Girardeau Federal Courthouse in Missouri will have three courtrooms and accommodate 97 employees. Fentress Bradburn worked with design-build partner PCL Construction Services to complete 20 percent of the design as part of the GSA Design for Excellence Program. Design will be completed this summer; construction will begin in the fall and the building will open January 2006.
  • Fentress Bradburn was selected to design a $31 million, 125,000-sq-ft expansion of the Palm Springs Convention Center. The expansion will add a 20,000-sq-ft ballroom and bring the total exhibition space to 100,000 sq ft. Grand opening ceremonies are scheduled for Spring 2005.
  • The 420,000-sq-ft redevelopment and expansion of Terminal C at Raleigh-Durham International Airport will create a state-of-the-art airport facility to complement positive growth in the "Triangle," comprised of the cities of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. Construction will begin in 2004 on the 15-year-old terminal building, acquired by the airport from American Airlines last year.



Delta and GSG to Build Larimer County Corrections Facility

Delta Construction of Fort Collins and GSG Architecture of Casper have been selected as the design-build team for Larimer County's new Community Corrections facility in Fort Collins. The new facility will be located at the County's Midpoint Campus in Fort Collins and will house approximately 175 inmates.

The Community Corrections project will cost approximately $5.2 million, approximately $4.2 million of which are construction costs. The project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2004.




MKK Completes Medical Center

The Cheyenne office of MKK Consulting Engineers Inc., a mechanical and electrical engineering consulting firm, provided the mechanical and electrical engineering design for the new 150,000-sq-ft, six-story patient tower at United Medical Center in Cheyenne.

MKK's work included five floors of patient rooms, a sunroom on the sixth floor with a panoramic view of Cheyenne, a courtyard with a snowmelt system, an 11,000-sq-ft kitchen and servery, and an auditorium and offices on the first floor.

Each patient room features remote-controlled window shades and lights, bedside temperature control, Internet connections and private bathrooms with showers. In addition to in-room amenities like DVD players, the new tower features private consultation rooms and a single-family dining area for patients and their families.




Alliance Construction Awarded Two Windsor Schools Projects

Alliance Construction Solutions, LLC has been chosen as the general contractor for the addition and remodel work at the Tozer Primary and Mountain View Elementary schools in Windsor.

Construction began immediately for 12,500 sq ft in multiple additions, providing space for pre-school, classrooms for computer labs and art as well as expansion of the cafeteria and administration. The remodeling provided new windows and mechanical/electrical upgrades at Tozer as well as site improvements for landscaping, playground equipment and fencing. The project is valued at $3.5 million.




Bovis Lend Lease Awarded Medical Center Project

The Denver office of Bovis Lend Lease has been awarded general contracting services for the new interventional cardiac catheterization lab at North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton. The owner of the project is HealthONE and the architect is H+L Architecture.

The project includes general construction, remodel of mechanical and electrical systems and installation of state-of-the-art cardiac equipment.

This is the second project Bovis Lend Lease has been awarded for North Suburban. In addition, Bovis Lend Lease is providing similar services for other Colorado HealthONE projects, including Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree and Swedish Medical Center in Englewood.




Merrick Awarded Major USDA Laboratory Project

Merrick & Co.'s buildings and infrastructure division was recently awarded the design for a new $70 million, high-security biocontainment laboratory and related infrastructure at USDA's Animal Health Facilities in Ames, Iowa.

The Ames location is the major U.S. Department of Agriculture center for research, diagnostics and product evaluation relating to livestock and poultry diseases in the United States. It is the first component of a significant modernization program under way at the Ames campus.

Merrick is responsible for the programming and final design of this new large animal health facility that will adhere to strict biological containment requirements. Scientific and technical efforts at the facility will involve work on pathogens and diseases in target species of livestock and poultry.

Merrick's fully integrated design team is responsible for architecture, civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering as well as construction support services. The facility is currently scheduled for design completion in 2003, and construction completion in 2005.




North Metro Community to Get New Recreation Center

On Feb. 8, ground was broken for a major addition to the Carbon Valley Recreation Center.
When complete in 2004, the new 50,000-sq-ft center will provide the latest in recreation amenities to the towns of Frederick, Dacono and Firestone. The original 11,000-sq-ft center was built 15 years ago and includes a lap pool, half-sized gymnasium and weight room.

Dauer Haswell Architecture Group provided the design for the renovation of the original building and an addition of approximately 35,000 sq ft. The expanded facilities will provide for a new lap pool, activity pool, locker rooms, public meeting rooms, aerobics, weights, a cardiovascular exercise room, gym with an elevated running track, administrative offices and baby sitting facilities.

Adolfson & Peterson is the general contractor.




GE Johnson to Renovate, Expand Cortez Hospital

GE Johnson Construction Co. has been awarded the renovation and expansion contract for Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez.

The 19,000-sq-ft addition and 18,500-sq-ft renovation will include laboratory, surgery, recovery, outpatient surgery, radiology, admitting/registration and lobby/waiting areas.

Designed by Johnson, Johnson and Crabtree of Nashville, and managed by AHFD, LLC of Nashville, a subsidiary of Quorum Health Resources, construction of the $8 million facility is expected to begin in summer 2003 and be complete in fall 2004.




Saunders Announces New Project

Saunders Construction Inc. has announced that it will build the new library and provide construction services for remodeling work at Rangeview High School.

The new library will be 7,500 sq ft with the existing library being remodeled into classrooms.
Saunders will also be responsible for additional remodel work within the existing facility and oversee the installation of a new fire alarm system. The project was designed by Larson Architects and will cost $3.45 million to complete.

Work began March 1 and is scheduled to be complete on August 1. Jason Godby is the project manager for Saunders.




Adolfson & Peterson to Build Housing Development at Stapleton

Adolfson & Peterson Construction has been chosen as the contractor for Roslyn Court, an affordable housing development to be built under the Workforce Housing Program in the Stapleton area.

Roslyn Court at Stapleton will contain 80 affordable for-sale housing condos, four-plexes and carriage houses for workers, including teachers, nurses, police, retail clerks and others with jobs in the Stapleton community. The units will be available for occupancy starting August 2003.




Loris and Associates Breaks Ground on New Facility

Loris and Associates, structural and civil engineers, has announced the groundbreaking of its new office building in Forest Park at the corner of 95th and Arapahoe in Lafayette.

The 7,200-sq-ft facility is the first phase of what will eventually be a 21,200-sq-ft professional building. Construction of the initial phase will be complete in August 2003. The two remaining phases, consisting of a 4,000-sq-ft office condo and 10,000-sq-ft office rental, will be completed in 2004 and 2005. The contractor is Quinlan Construction.

The building is a two-story timber structure adjacent to the 13th tee of the Indian Peaks Golf Course. The building was designed to be compatible with the agricultural history of the area as evidenced by a silo that houses the future elevator.

Site layout was also conceived to take advantage of the rural setting. Parking is situated on one side of the lot, allowing for green spaces and landscaping surrounding the building. On the back of the building is a detention pond with a wetland that will improve stormwater quality while attracting wildlife to the site. Aller-Lingle Architects of Fort Collins designed the building, and Loris performed site and structural engineering.




RMCAD Purchases AMC Lakewood Campus

The Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design has purchased the 100-year-old AMC Cancer Research Center campus in Lakewood. The college expects to relocate to the 23-acre location within the next six months.

For the next several years, AMC will lease back four of the 18 buildings from RMCAD while transitioning to the Fitzsimons medical campus in Aurora. RMCAD will occupy the rest of the 140-sq-ft space. RMCAD has sold its existing properties to Public Service Co. Credit Union.
