Engineers
JR Engineering recently added a new manager to its Construction Services group.
John J. Ward comes to JR Engineering with experience in construction inspection and testing, project and construction management, claims avoidance and resolution, expert witness/opinion, construction-related traffic accident analysis, procedures development, quality systems, quality assurance, quality control, public relations and value-engineering.
Ward previously served in various capacities for the Colorado Department of Transportation, from project engineer to branch manager.
Russ Pickering, environmental department manager at Terracon’s Wheat Ridge office, has been named senior associate. Pickering joined the firm in 2006 and has 15 years of environmental consulting experience.
Ben Mitchell and Chris Shult recently joined JVA Inc., a structural and civil engineering design firm based in Boulder.
Mitchell was hired as a senior project engineer in the Winter Park structural engineering department. He is a registered professional engineer with nine years of experience. He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Iowa with an emphasis in structural engineering.
Shult joins JVA’s Winter Park office as a structural design engineer with a focus on residential design. He has been working with JVA as an intern for the last three years while completing a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering with an emphasis in structures and construction management from the University of Colorado. He recently completed a master’s degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in structures from Washington State University.
Shaffer • Baucom Engineering & Consulting of Denver has expanded its team with the hiring of DJ Starks, senior construction administrator; Scott Hodgson, mechanical engineer; David Baptiste, senior mechanical designer; and Stephen Geer, mechanical engineer.
Starks has more than 27 years of experience in the electrical design and construction industry. He has served on a number of projects, including Invesco Field, Rocky Flats, Denver International Airport, Coors Cullet Plant and DHHA.
Hodgson has more than five years of mechanical engineering experience, including laboratories and industrial, aerospace and research facilities. In addition to his engineering experience, he earned a master’s degree in business administration from Weber State University in 2007.
Baptiste has more than 10 years of experience in the consulting engineering industry. He has been involved in the design of health-care, higher education, pharmaceutical, commercial and industrial facilities. He is also actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in specialty mechanical engineering.
Geer is a recent graduate of the Colorado School of Mines, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in specialty mechanical engineering. For more than three years, he has been actively working in the engineering industry. His experience consists of building science, structural, civil and mechanical engineering.
Smith Seckman Reid Inc., an engineering design and facility consulting firm, has hired Thomas Bakane as a mechanical engineer and Michael Brown as a senior communications consultant in the firm’s Denver office.
Bakane is responsible for the design of facility mechanical HVAC and plumbing systems, as well as central utility plant design. He is a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers and the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers.
Brown brings to his new role a specialization in structured cabling systems, low-voltage communications systems, data network design and audiovisual integration. Brown is ITSM/ITIL-certified, Microsoft-certified and holds a LeftHand Networks certification.
Architects
Jared Blank has joined Alan Ford Architects PC, where he will work on the Staunton State Park project and Spruce Street Place, a mixed-use, office/retail development at Lowry. A Colorado native, Blank graduated from CU-Denver with a master’s degree in architecture in August. He received an undergraduate degree in environmental design from CU-Boulder in 2006.
Slaterpaull Architects, a Denver-based architecture firm, recently promoted three employees: Jennifer Cordes to principal, Matt Porta to senior associate and Lyn Eller to associate.
Cordes has been with the firm for 12 years and leads its higher education studio with a focus on building-renewal projects. Her most notable projects have been the Tivoli revitalization on the Auraria Higher Education Campus and the University Center for the Arts renovation at Colorado State University. She is currently working with WTW Architects on the design of a new student union for Western State College.
Porta joined the firm in 1997 and has been a team leader on a variety of projects, including educational, religious and recreational facilities. Most recently, he led design efforts for Valor Christian High School. Porta graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a bachelor’s degree in architecture.
Jason Ingerslev joined Denver-based Pahl Architecture as a job captain. Ingerslev received a bachelor’s degree in environmental design in architecture from CU-Boulder in December 2001.
He is working on the Sheriff Substation for Douglas County, projects for the Marriott DTC and Denver West and the Hampton Inn and Suites in Gunbarrel. Currently, he is studying for the LEED exam and is enrolled in the IDP Program, to be completed this fall.
Fort Collins native Randy Shortridge, a former vice president and design director in the Los Angeles office of RTKL, has joined Fort Collins-based RB+B Architects, adding more clout and expertise to the 25-person design firm’s cadre of sustainable design professionals.
His design focus will be on helping mixed-use, hospitality, office/corporate and retail clients. Shortridge holds a master’s degree in architecture with distinction from Arizona State University and a bachelor’s degree in environmental design from the University of Colorado.
RNL has added five new staff members to its Denver office.
Bradford Bull joined RNL as a senior project manager and associate in the architecture studio. Bull graduated from the University of Colorado at Denver with master’s degrees in architecture and landscape architecture.
Omar Baghdadi joined the UD/LA studio as an urban designer and is currently a PhD candidate in architectural history at the University of Michigan. Baghdadi has taught at several institutions, including Cairo University, the American University in Cairo and the University of Michigan. He received a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering from Cairo University and a master’s of urban design from the University of Michigan.
Ryan Knope joined RNL as a 3D/graphic designer. He previously worked for Hospitality Services Inc., where he was a 3D artist/animator and helped lead the company in a new direction of realistic visualization.
Nathan Gulash joined the architecture studio as an architectural intern. Gulash received his master’s degree in architecture from the University of Michigan and taught classes in construction, introductory visualization skills and technical drawing. He is handling project coordination and construction administration for various projects, including One Steamboat Place.
Daniel Bloor joined RNL as the network administrator. He is a Microsoft-certified systems engineer. Bloor attended Southern Methodist University, the Peabody Conservatory and Boston University and has more than nine years of network administration experience.
